Prospect Spotlight: Jaylin Gibson (2021)
Evanston 2021 small forward Jaylin Gibson is a big time athlete for Hoops Avenue. Gibson is a quick twitched athlete that plays insanely hard. He flies around on the defensive end being active looking to create turnovers. Quick to the offensive glass for put backs. Mostly a slasher at this stage and his shot will need to improve long term. Should be on D1 radars.
Gibson discussed his freshman campaign.
“For me on a freshman playing on varsity it was a good year. I learned a lot of stuff mentality and on defense. I know I can get it done on offense. Defense is how you win games. Coach Ellis taught me a lot on defense with help side and how to guard your man one on one. Before the season even started conditioning helped because I was able to stay on the court a lot longer. We were used to running.”
It was an awesome learning experience for the rest of his career to play in Peoria.
“The experience of going to state as a freshman was good. Next year we are going to try to get back down there.”
Where did he improve the most as a player?
“I improved on defense. My shooting has improved. I used to not be able to shoot the ball for nothing.”
Gibson broke down the strengths of his game.
“My strengths are getting to the basket, finding the open man, rebounding, and playing defense.”
