That reason being he plays at a two-year old high school – Orange Vista in Perris – which is located in an under-covered region of Southern California.
The 6-foot sophomore has put up huge scoring numbers through his first two seasons of varsity basketball, scoring 21.6 points per game in his freshman year and 26.2 this past season, and is ready to make his mark on the club level with his recent move to Pump-N-Run’s top 16U team.
“I’ve been kind of unknown all my life, but I’ve always been good,” Muldrew said about what motivates him. “Every chance I get I try to come out here and dominate. I need to do more of everything on the court. You can always improve on everything in your game.”
Orange Vista High and Pump-N-Run 16 guard Armon Muldrew is prepared to open some eyes this spring and summer.Muldrew is a strong, physical, explosive and athletic combo guard with an elite first step and ability to absorb and finish through or over contact.
He likens his game to a former “sleeper” So-Cal product and current NBA superstar.
“I play like a (Russell) Westbrook style,” Muldrew said. “I like to attack the rim, play through contact. I can shoot it a little bit, too. I need to keep working on my jump shot because it’s inconsistent right now.”
Muldrew believes that being the main option at a smaller, upstart high school program has helped his game both on the court and between the ears.
“My biggest strengths are attacking the basket, finding open teammates and just being a leader, “ he said. “The coaches actually let us play at Orange Vista. We have a system, but they let us run and play our game and it’s resulted in a lot of wins.”
Muldrew says that he’s hearing most from Montana right now, but that could change with a successful performance during the Adidas Gauntlet live period this weekend in Irvine.
