Grassroots Preview: Iowa Pump n Run
17U Black
Coaches: Duez Henderson, Tim Barnett
Overview: “A solid group where the sum is bigger than the parts. We have two players with seven years together, four players in their sixth year and others with at least three years together. I think you would be hard pressed to find that level of consistency with any team in the country.
On the floor, this translates into a group that plays extremely well together on both ends of the floor. We won’t wow you with athleticism or size, but our grit and discipline is what allows us to be competitive against more “talented” teams. As I said, we have multiple guys that play their role very well. Offensively Mason Porter is a hard guard to keep out of the paint and he excels in transition. Also contributing to the scoring load is Max Wilcox, a small but skilled guard, and Carson Crile, a rugged tweener who can score from multiple spots on the floor. Keontae Luckett is a shifty, athletic guard and Bryce Barnett is a player who has gotten bigger and stronger, doing an excellent job of facilitating and scoring when needed. Rhett Zeglen, Mason Rahe and Carter Hartman are three kids who fill multiple roles, undersized but excel at knowing their roles. They are great examples of players who haven’t seen a ton of meaningful minutes during the high school season, but compete and contribute at a very high level during the spring and summer! This is the premier group in our program and we expect big things! I will go on record that there will not be a team that plays harder than this group.” – Duez Henderson

17U Gold
Coaches: Duez Henderson, Bryant Porter
Overview: “This is a group with six returners that has slowly gotten better each year. Scoring punch will be provided by Gavin Kies, a bigger guard who can shoot the ball, and Ben Wolgemuth, a wiry wing player that is a sneaky scorer. Logan Rashid provides playmaking ability, while Camden Butterbaugh is a tough guard who gets into the paint. Matthew Walton adds scoring from the perimeter as well. Alex Wolter and Noah Guillaume are 6-10 and 6-8 respectively, and will anchor our defense and provide an interior presence. Ryle Koenig and Jacob Tischuk are bigger bodies who can play inside or out and add toughness. Look for this group to be solid on the offensive end…the commitment to defense will determine the success of this group. I am excited to coach this group and see the progress.” – Duez Henderson

15U Black
Coaches: Richie Logsdon, Spencer Barnes
Overview: “Effort, attitude and communication. Those are the program trademarks that Iowa Pump n Run 15U Black team will look to bring to the court this season. We’ve got a really defensive minded group this year. They’re hard working and give relentless effort constantly.
The team will see leadership from a variety of players, including Ethan Trimpe, Tanner Sanders, Chris Stegemoller and Nathan Whitney. Ethan is a strong kid with a great skill set offensively and tons of grit. Tanner is our coach on the floor and really does everything well. Chris has huge upside, a lot of length and athleticism, and is our glue guy on the court. Nathan’s a great facilitator and has tremendous ball handling ability.
The team also has a quartet of offensively skilled players in Ethan Waugh, Damon Heeren, Kayden Rezac and Matt Johnson. Levi Enzugusi brings a defensive mindset to the team, while Jake Eaves provides us with a stretch big man with solid range and rim protection.
We will have a very competitive summer. We’ll get better throughout the year as our cohesiveness improves. It’s a fun, talented and motivated group of kids who are very coachable and committed to improving every day.” – Richie Logsdon
