Getting To Know Jay Heath (2019)
As our coverage continues from this weekend’s DMVelite Live Period Warm Up, we caught up with 2019 Wilson/Team Melo guard Jay Heath. Heath was one of the standouts throughout the slate of games on Saturday as he recorded 28 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks and three assists in a win against Maryland Movement. The 6-foot-3 slashing guard was recently offered by Boston College and also holds offers from schools including Rhode Island, Kansas State, James Madison, Towson, Howard, Louisiana Tech and Canisius. We caught up with Heath and threw a number of questions his way rapid fire style to find out more about him.
PH: Speak on the experience of your junior season both as a team and individually.
JH: When the season first started a lot of people were saying we couldn’t play together. We had a lot of talent, but they thought we weren’t going to be able to figure it out. We proved those people wrong and played together, won three championships and played hard every game. For me, it was about me becoming a leader and leading my team and becoming more of a point guard. I averaged 15.7 points per game.
PH: What are some things that you’ll focus on this spring/summer to help expand your game?
JH: Just becoming more of a point guard. Working on my ball handling, making better decisions with the ball and being a better leader.
PH: What NBA player do you model your game after the most?
JH: I would say Chris Paul. He’s a smart player and not just scoring wise, but also setting up his teammates and getting everyone together. He’s a great leader.
PH: Who’s your favorite NBA team?
JH: I don’t have a favorite team but my favorite player is LeBron James.
PH: Who’s going to win the NBA Finals?
JH: The Cavs because LeBron is the best player on the planet. No Rockets or no Warriors love here.
PH: What’s your favorite food?
JH: Macaroni and cheese.
PH: Who’s your favorite artist?
JH: Shy Glizzy
PH: Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions before a game?
JH: Nah. I just listen to my music.
PH: What’s the go-to track before you hit the floor?
JH: Dogged up by Q Da Fool
