Final 2018 Rankings: Top Shooting Guards
The 2018 class is full of high scoring wings who should be impact players in college over the next 4 years. Several of the names at the top of this list are kids we have been hearing about since these young men were 8th graders but several others came along over the past few seasons to prove themselves as elite players in the state of Kentucky. Here’s a look at the top shooting guards in the 2018 class:
Trevon Faulkner, Mercer County – Much has been said and written about Trevon and his high school career culminated in being named Mr. Basketball for the state of Kentucky. With recent transfers at Northern Kentucky, Trevon has a chance to start for the Norse right away next season.
CJ Fredrick, Covington Catholic – Fredrick’s career at Covington Catholic ended with a state title and state tournament MVP award. One of the top shooters in the state, CJ is headed to Iowa and figures to start his career as a 3 point specialist.
Adam Kunkel, Cooper – Belmont bound, Kunkel is another elite sniper from long range. The best player on the 2017 state runner-up team, Kunkel battled through injury and double and triple teams all season to average 20 points per game and still putting up strong shooting numbers.
Skyelar Potter, Warren Central – One of the best athletes in the state, Potter emerged from recruiting obscurity to become a hot name last summer and fall before ultimately committing to Wright State. Potter figures to compete for playing time right away on the wing and should contribute with the Raiders next season.
Steven Fitzgerald, Pulaski County – Ending his career with over 3,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds, Fitzgerald will take his high powered offense to Samford this summer and could find himself as a starter or at least a rotation player for a Bulldog team that has been hit hard with transfers in the last month.
Cooper Robb, Scott County – A three sport star, Robb went from throwing touchdowns to hitting threes and is now hitting home runs. Robb is headed to UNC-Charlotte for his college career and should be a very solid college player over the next 4 years.
Markelo Sullivan, Fairdale – Sullivan really came along in the last 2 years and was one of the best scorers in Louisville this season. Markelo could be a steal a year from now if he decides to do a prep year or go to junior college. He is currently undecided on his next move.
Darius Harding, Elizabethtown – Another prospect who is currently uncommitted, Harding had a tremendous career for the Panthers and leaves the school as one of their best players in school history. Like Sullivan, Darius has a hard choice to make as he can take an NAIA offer or try a prep or junior college in hopes of getting better offers a year from now.
