Final 2018 Rankings: Top Point Guards
The 2018 class is full of good point guards who should be impact players in college over the next 4 years. Several of the names at the top of this list are kids we have been hearing about since these young men were 8th graders but several others came along over the past few seasons to prove themselves as elite point guards in the state of Kentucky. Here’s a look at the top points guards in the 2018 class:
Andrew Taylor, Corbin – Much has been written and said about Andrew Taylor over his career. Taylor finished up as one of the top scorers in Kentucky history and figures to be an impact player when he gets to Furman in the fall.
Anthony Wales, Fern Creek – Another point guard who has been starting varsity for several years, Wales is more of a pass first facilitator than Taylor. If assists were an official KHSAA statistic I’m sure that Wales would find himself near the top of the list in career assists. Anthony will enroll at Samford this summer and is likely to push for playing time right away in a thin back court.
Eric Boone, Bryan Station – A scoring point guard with the ability to clamp down on defense, “Boss” is headed to Tallahassee Community College in June and could emerge as a mid major or better D1 prospect in 2 years. Boone will need to focus on improving his perimeter shooting in order to reach the D1 level, but he has shown he has a work ethic with his consistent improvement at Bryan Station.
Cobe Penny, Anderson County – Like Andrew Taylor, Penny is more of a score first PG but has shown ability to run an offense when he has teammates around him who can help carry the scoring load. Penny is off to Bellarmine in the fall and after leaving Anderson as the all time leading scorer in school history, Cobe will look to make a similar impact and compete for D2 national championships.
Aiden Ruthsatz, Covington Catholic – Ruthsatz was likely the most valuable player for Covington Catholic in their state title run last month. If Aiden were 2 inches taller and had a quicker first step, he would have been a no brainer D1 point. But Ruthsatz will certainly make his presence known at the D2 level and figures to compete for starter’s minutes right away once he arrives in college.
