Circle City Shootout: 2019 Guard Standouts
The second AAU weekend for Prep Hoops Indiana is complete and we got to see some really solid teams for the second weekend. Today, we being our breakdown by class of those prospects that stuck out to us. First up are the guards in the 2019 class.
Clay Hilliard | 6’2 SG | Kardia Kings | Plymouth HS (IN)
Tough little guard who can shoot it pretty well when he’s set. He has an edge to his game and he’s a tough kid. He banged around in the post a few times even though he was much smaller. Decent handles but needs to improve his ability to drive around guys from the perimeter. A good looking shooter who is really intriguing.
Isaiah Drew | 5’11 PG | DistinXion 2019 Black | Greenwood HS (IN)
Drew is much more confident in his shot than I saw in the high school season. He was a willing passer off the drive and shot the ball extremely well. He’s a quick kid who has a lot of potential as a lead guard at the next level. His vision with the ball was outstanding as he probably picked up seven assists. Strong body with a solid frame to work with. One of the better kids I saw.
William Trotter | 6’1 CG | DistinXion 2019 Black | Hauser HS (IN)
Trotter was able to shoot the ball at a really good clip and he shoed me that he is able to run the point if he needs to. A really solid kid who does everything pretty well. I would like to see him be able to drive and score a little more but he makes up for that by finding the right man on the drive.
Jordan Brickley | 5’9 PG | IE Side 2019 | Beech Grove HS (IN)
Brickley is really solid in the open floor, something that I wasn’t able to see during the high school season. He is quick with the ball and is able to do quite a lot when he is in the open floor. He made the extra pass so many times leading to a basket. He doesn’t necessarily look to score but when he needs to he can hit the jumper. Love to hit the open three off the screen though.
Spencer Reist | 6’1 SG | IE Side 2019 | Brebeuf HS (IN)
Reist was a little passive in the game I saw but when he was being aggressive he was really good. He was handling the ball a lot when he was in and showed an improved dribble-drive game. He was quick the the basket and finished through contact at the rim. A bright spot on a team that struggled when I saw them.
Carl Fulmore | 5’8 PG | Hoop Dreams – Bowles | Scecina HS (IN)
Fulmore is a guy who didn’t get much run last year for Scecina but he can play. He is as fast as anyone on the court and doesn’t slow down much when he has the ball. He can shoot it or get to the rim and finish despite his height. A quick lead guard with a good first step. He’s a guy that you have to stop and IE Side did not.
Jayveon White | 5’7 PG | Hoop Dreams – Bowles | Kokomo HS (IN)
White was really impressive with his hustle on defense and his ability to shift in transition. White was getting to the rim at a torrid pace and finishing well, even though he gave up a lot of height. He can shoot the ball pretty well and keeps the defenders off balance with his ability to take his man off the dribble.
Paxton Bartley | 6’3 SG | DistinXion 2019 Red | Wood Memorial (IN)
Bartley is a lengthy two guard two has the ability to drive and finish at the rim due to his height. He positions himself well without the ball and runs the floor keeping it spaced. He is tough going to the basket due to that length and has a viable shot. Could be a nice piece for a D3 school with his ability to finish in traffic. Threw a thunderous dunk down in traffic over a 6’7 kid.
Gabe Gladish | 6’1 SG | DistinXion 2019 Red | Barr-Reeve (IN)
It’s always tough to gauge Barr-Reeve players in the high school season due to their slow it down nature, but Gladish really stood out to me in this one. He is really strong and has a really nice repeatable shot. He can play above the rim if he needs to and is very quick end to end with the basketball. A very solid player for this team. Should be getting some NAIA+ looks.
Justin Hensley | 6’4 SG | Indiana Elite Metro | Cathedral (IN)
Hensley is one of the best shooters in the state. He gets himself open patrolling the three point line and if he gets any space he is going to nail the shot. In one game he made eight threes and six of those were in a row. He needs to improve his defense a little bit but other than that his offense is college ready. A huge stock riser this weekend.
