Checking in with EAB 16u
Head Coach 16u Finess Brown II lead his EAB 2020 (16u) team to a HoopSeen Bama Jam Championship Sunday afternoon. The Huntsville-based Pro One squad gave them some fits in the first half, but EAB 16u eventually pulled away.
The win feels good internally, but globally the focus is entirely on recruiting. Which coaches watched and what offers or initial interest emerged?
“I had a conversation with the Assistant Coach from North Alabama,” said EAB 16u Head Coach Finess Brown II. “I saw UAB watching us, kind of evaluating during that time. Alabama A&M showed up on multiple occasions.”
The North Alabama coach “talked about the (Dusty) Williams kid, the (Tariq) Daughton kid from Knoxville Webb, and he asked about the Jamaal Walker (East Hamilton) kid,” said Coach Brown II.
Dusty Williams is currently ranked 20th in the Class of 2020. Tariq Daughton resides at 65 in the state, but outperformed that ranking during the Hoopseen Bama Jam.
“He has a great basketball I.Q.,” said Coach Brown II of Daughton. “Very knowledgeable. Very efficient with the basketball. Can score at all three levels. His game is really unique. He is quiet. He does it all in the flow of the offense.”
Dusty Williams of Franklin Centennial is a player that bloodied the competition in the Antioch regional of Class AAA and landed on our Top Players list. Both a smart kid and a good athlete, Dusty never shrinks from elevated competition. His jovial attitude and grit will serve him well as he ascends the basketball ladder.
“Dalton Marsh (Macon County High) has played well, offered Coach Brown II. “He was good over in MADE Hoops (Arkansas).”
EAB Head Coach Brown II enjoyed the Bama Jam.
“The event was excellent,” said Coach Brown II. “I loved the facility. We had a great weekend, probably better than I expected. These guys have found a way to come together and really turn it on.”
The team does not play selfishly and when you win by double digits everybody is happy. That was the case for a strong 16u team in Birmingham.
“My group has been balanced when it comes to defense.”
What next?
“We head to Atlanta. It is pretty solid. They already have 64 teams committed and our bracket will be good. Going to that area you get good independent teams throughout Georgia, South Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.”
