Ashton Arnold Tourney : 2019 Standouts
Lets take a look at the top 2019 standouts from this weekend at the Ashton Arnold Memorial Tourney in Easley, SC. The event was hosted by Lamont Simmons and the Team South Carolina organization.
Tre Jackson – Blythewood HS – Team South Carolina 2019 Black
Jackson 6’2 can really breakdown a defender with his ball handling. Jackson can play off the ball and has the ability to score the ball from all 3 levels on the floor. Jackson always seems to play at a good pace on the floor and never seems to get rattled with ball pressure.
Russell Jones – Westwood HS – Team South Carolina 2019 Black
Jones 5’8 point guard is tough to keep up with on the floor. Jones a water-bug never turns the ball over and keeps the ball low to the floor. Jones was really on fire today with his shot from behind the arc. Jones is a pesky defender on the ball
Walyn Napper – Ridge View HS – Team South Carolina 2019 Black
Napper is fresh off a Class 4A State Championship for the Blazers. Napper a physical guard 6’3 really enjoys attacking the basket as a downhill driver. Napper tends to slash and attack more than shoot the ball on the perimeter. Napper is great passer in transition.
Traye Carson – Westside (Anderson) – Team South Carolina 2019 Black
Carson 5’8 is another nemesis in the back court for opponents. Carson can really change gears well and can play fast end to end on the floor. Carson has the ability to penetrate and kick or knock down a 3 pointer. Carson was Region Player of the Year this season after averaging 17.8 ppg
Mason Carver – Lexington HS – Team South Carolina 2019 Gray
Carver is a lights shooter on the floor. Carver found his way in the corners knocking down 3 pointers today. Carver at times was even a bit passive to shoot the ball. Carver plays with a good basketball “IQ” on the floor.
Kendall Wormack – Westwood HS – Team South Carolina 2019 Gray
Wormack 6’5 came out firing from the perimeter today. Wormack a small forward settled for a lot of shots from behind the 3 point line and did connect on a few of them. Wormack has good length and look to him. Wormack should see his role flourish more next season at Westwood HS.
Jake Smith – Enka HS (NC) – Team South Carolina 2019 Red
Smith is a shooter who can really fill it up when given the chance. Smith connected on some three pointers today. Smith has good range on his shot.
Dorian Williams – Greenville HS – South Carolina Playmakers (pictured on front – #2)
Williams showed some great range on his shot today for the SC Playmkers. Williams, Handy and Frank in the back court give them 3 viable options to score the ball.
Ja’hiem Handy – TL Hanna HS (Anderson) – South Carolina Playmakers (pictured on front)
Handy played really well here this weekend. Handy was active all over the floor if it was rebounding, taking the ball up or scoring at the rim. Handy a wiry guard averaged 14.1 ppg and 6 rebounds this season for the Yellow Jackets.
Adam Frank – Shannon Forest Christian (Greenville) – South Carolina Playmakers
Frank played last AAU season with the South Carolina Sonics, The Sonics are no longer in the works. Frank needs time and space for his shot. Frank a knocked down some open looks. Frank has a good feel for the game.
