2020 Rankings Update: Top Point Guards
Now that the class of 2020 has completed their Sophomore seasons, they are about to embark on the huge spring and summers as they get ready to hit the AAU circuit. The point guard crop is a little weak in the 2020 class. Only 2 of the top 10 prospects are point guards and there don’t appear to be any others close to cracking the top 10. Here’s a look at the top point guards in the newly updated 2020 rankings:
Dayvion McKnight, Collins – Dayvion is an electric point who can get to the rim and create open looks for others. He needs to improve as a shooter but he does a lot of things to help a team win. Averaging over 8 rebounds and 6 assists per game this season, McKnight is a threat to go for a triple double any night. There are several mid and low major schools that will be out to see Dayvion in the recruiting periods this month. McKnight will be running with M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs this AAU season.
James Taylor Jr., Saint Xavier – “Junior” is a floor general who is best suited to be a distributor of the ball rather than a scorer. If he can grow an inch or two and show the lateral mobility required to guard elite point guards, Taylor can be a mid major D1 point guard by the time he graduates from St. X. Taylor is playing up on 17u with The Ville this AAU season.
Tyren Moore, Male – Moore is another point who is at his best going downhill and attacking the rim. Tyren needs to improve his conditioning and outside shooting to reach his potential but he’s a bulldog who projects to be a D2 recruit at worst. Tyren is the point guard for the 16u Louisville Magic.
Jared Courtney, Franklin County – Courtney is more of a floor general than a driver with the ball in his hands. Jared improved quite a bit over the course of his sophomore season after battling injuries in his 15u AAU season. Hopefully Jared can see more success in his 16u season playing with The Ville.
Lewis Richards, Ballard – Richards is a small point who played a role for Ballard and even started a few games as a sophomore. With several seniors graduating from the Bruin roster, there is going to be ample playing time for Lewis next season. Richards will be playing with Courtney on the 16u Ville this spring and summer.
