2020 Day’Ron Sharpe Impresses at Adidas Gauntlet
I did not know that much about Day’ron before this weekend, however, things suddenly changed after I watched my first 16u game this past weekend in D.C. at the Adidas Gauntlet. The 6’9 sophomore who attends South Central High School and currently plays for Gardner Road had a fantastic weekend leading the 16 and under age group with 24 points per game. He was third in rebounds per game standing at 7 and was second in blocks being at 3 per game. Sharpe could not be stopped in the paint this weekend and was super effective around the rim. He was also showing off how he can shoot a good mid range shot and for a big man, he showed great passing abilities.
He was a stand out for South Central High School during his sophomore year campaign this past winter, “The high school season went well, we went 30-1, we lost in the regionals but everybody loses games, we should do even better next year.”
Before this weekend, Sharpe had two scholarship offers from ODU and ECU.
ODU was the first program to offer him and spoke on the CUSA program, “They are going to keep following and recruiting me and at some point in the summer I am going to try and get to the campus.”
ECU was the second program that offered and he touched on the Pirates, “I talk to the new coach that just got there. He wants to get to know me more.”
When asked who else he is getting interest from, he said, “North Carolina, NC State, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Oklahoma State.”
After the weekend, he walked away with offers from Virginia and UConn.
Expect Sharpe to have a big spring and summer with many other schools to get involved with the talented sophomore.
