USA National Prep Basketball Championships : SC Players
Prep Hoops took in the action this weekend at the USA National Prep Basketball Championships in North Myrtle Beach, SC. The 3 day event featured teams from the Mid-Atlantic down to Georgia and several Canadian teams.
Lets take a look at some players in the event with Palmetto State ties on out of state teams.
Carlos Nuttry (2018) WestRidge Academy (Kernersville, NC)
Nuttry is in his 2nd season at the Kernersville, NC school. Last season while playing at then Forest Trail Academy, Nuttry reclassified. Nuttry a Hopkins, SC native attended high school at Lower Richland HS. Nuttry played well in a victory over Piedmont Classical in scoring 10 points and handing out 4 assists. Nuttry 6’2 is a solid D2 prospect.
Javarzia Belton (2020) WestRidge Academy (Kernersville, NC)
Belton a Calhoun Falls native reclassified back in the fall to the 2020 class. Belton 6’10 post player moves well and takes a lot of space. Belton moves quite well for his size and has a great wingspan. Belton has received offers from College of Charleston, South Carolina State and UNLV.
Belton will play AAU this spring with Team United on the EYBL according to Golden Knights Head Coach Antonio Lowe.
Jalen Williams (2019) Our Savior New American (Centereach, NY)
Williams left the Palmetto State back in December 2015. Williams a point guard played his 8th grade year at Pinewood Prep in Summerville. Williams has filled out over the years for the Pioneers and starts at the point guard spot for Pastor Ron Stelzer. Williams has a really good feel and knack for the game. Williams showed great leadership and a nice pull-up jumper on a few different occasions today. Williams family still lives in the Charleston area.
Darius Bryant (POST) Moravian Prep (Hickory, NC) (pictured on front)
Bryant was on fire all weekend long for Moravian Prep. Bryant a undersized shooting guard scored 27 points on 9 three pointers in a victory over Washington Academy (NC). Bryant received offers this past weekend from Chowan (NC) and West Georgia (NCAA D2 programs). Earlier in the tourney Bryant scored 33 points vs Rise (Canada) while connecting on 10 three pointers.
Bryant scored over 1,500 points in high school at Lexington HS. Bryant has the green light whenever he wants to pull it in the game against Washington Academy – he was (9-16) from behind the arc. Bryant
Michael Wright (POST) Moravian Prep (Hickory, NC)
Wright a product of Pinewood Prep has really slimmed down his frame over the past year. Wright a small forward has received strong interest from UNC-Pembroke (NCAA D2) according to Moravian Prep Head Coach Jeremy Ellis.
Greg Archie (POST) Combine Academy-Atlanta (GA)
Archie a left-handed point guard played at Oceanside Collegiate before heading to prep school. Archie a hit some mid-range jumpers and showed some crisp passes today for Combine Academy-Atlanta.
Tawon Buie (POST) Combine Academy-Atlanta (GA)
Buie joined Archie at Combine Academy after starting the season at Franklin Prep. Buie a guard got to the rack today on a few occasions and hit a few three pointers. Buie played with the Port City Stars on the AAU circuit.
Brandon Miller (POST) Combine Academy-Charlotte (NC)
Miller a point guard played at Pinewood Prep with Wright. Miller a pass first point guard gets into the lanes and penetrates and kicks.
** Combine Academy has 7 teams total. Combine Academy-Charlotte has 4 teams while Atlanta host 3 teams.
