Upstate/WNC Showcase Notes Part III
The 2nd Annual PrepHoops/Justin Byerly Upstate/WNC Showcase was held this past weekend. Here is the third installment of the top performers from the event.
5’11, 2020 PG Jassiah Dorsey of Eastern Guilford HS is a defensive stopper. Gets after it on that end and makes it hard on opposition to get baskets. Also shot it well in the game I saw.
Justus Shelton of Mountian Heritage HS will be on a lot of college radars after this spring/summer. Legit 6’9, sophomore is long, blocks shots, runs floor, can step out and hit jumpers.
2021 PG Makoa Surigao is was impressive this weekend. Skilled guard who can defend. Good shooter from deep, can get into the paint and distribute. Young PG with bright future.
2020 guard Trey Hall of TL Hanna HS did a solid job of defending, hitting open shots, running the floor and showing some flashes of his athletic ability.
6’1, 2020 guard Leonard Williams of Laurens HS shot it well from beyond the three-point line, has the ability to create space when trying to get his shot off, does well at getting out in front for easy baskets.
2019 guard Brandon Aumiller is a physically strong player, attacks the paint and can finish at the rim, knocked down some mid to long range shots, good at finishing in transition, built like a running back.
2020 guard Alex Chambers is a sophomore to watch in WNC. Knows how to score, good handle, has a high basketball IQ, gets to the right spots on the floor. Shooter.
6’3, 2018 guard Davante Gathers is an athlete. High-flying scorer who has a high-motor. Good defensive fundamentals and should be on JuCo radars.
6’0, 2019 guard John Taylor was impressive over the weekend. Shot it well, got into the lane, attacked off the dribble, a threat to score from beyond the arc. Playing next season at Quality Education Academy.
