STATE TOURNAMENT: 4A All-Tournament Team
FIRST TEAM
Most Outstanding Player: AJ Green, 6’3 PG (Cedar Falls)
25.8 PPG, 7.8 RPG
The future Northern Iowa Panthers point guard was by far the leading scorer in 4A field, his 77 total points were 33 more than the second-best scorer’s (Patrick McCaffery) 44. Green ended his prolific career on top, as a 4A champ. He’s a Cedar Falls legend, and one of the best Iowa high school hoopers ever.
Patrick McCaffery, 6’8 SF (Iowa City West)
14.7 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 2.0 APG, 1.7 BPG
The leading scorer and leading shot-blocker for the state’s 4A runners-up, McCaffery was quiet at times in this tourney, but still his team’s best player. He’ll do a little bit of everything to help his team, and plays smart, always. Iowa City West was walloped by Cedar Falls in the 4A final, that should serve as motivation for McCaffery and other returning Trojans. We expect to see McCaffery and Co. back at state next March.
Logan Wolf, 6’4 G/F (Cedar Falls)
14.3 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 5.3 APG
The breakout star of this 4A tourney, Wolf was very good in all three games, and particularity in a semifinal win over Valley. He was flashing some high-level athleticism, and his baseline two-hand jam in the semis was one of the better of the tourney. He can take his man off the bounce, and was doing so routinely all week. Cedar Falls will be in good hands with Wolf at the helm next season.
Noah Hart, 6’3 PG (Waukee)
14.0 PPG, 5.7 APG, 3.7 RPG
Another junior, like Wolf, who had a bit of a coming out party last week. We at Prep Hoops Iowa certainly knew what the heady floor-general was capable of, and now a lot more people have the idea. He led Waukee in scoring and assists, and is a big reason why they were able to come away with a third-place finish.
Seybian Sims, 6’6 F (Iowa City West)
11.3 PPG, 6.0 RPG
Sims was really good throughout the week, and his ability to finish was among the best in the field. The Trojans’ second leading scorer last week and top rebounder, Sims certainly looks like a scholarship-level basketball player. It might be that he takes the JuCo route to get there, though.
SECOND TEAM
Blake Brinkmeyer, 6’8 PF (Valley)
8.3 PPG, 6.7 RPG
Trayvon Williams, 6’3 G (Valley)
10.3 PPG, 2.0 APG, 1.3 SPG
Dylan Jones, 6’8 F (Waukee)
9.7 PPG, 10.0 RPG
Nathan Johnson, 6’6 SF (Waukee)
11.7 PPG, 2.0 APG
Joe Wieskamp, 6’6 SF (Muscatine)
29 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals (one game)
