Spring Preview: 2019 Breakout Guards
The spring is now just about here and we are spending time over the next month preparing and previewing all you need to know about the 2019 class as AAU gets ready to get going. We will breakdown many areas with not only position breakdowns but the best of the best. Today, we are looking at those top breakout candidates in the 2019 class.
Prospect | HT | POS | High School |
Drew Comer | 6’4 | SG | Greensburg |
Elijah Hales | 6’4 | SG | Westview |
Maurion Martin | 6’3 | PG | Portage |
Josiah Matthews | 6’0 | PG | Fishers |
The class of 2019 is so, so deep and this guard class could end up being special once we take a look back after their college careers. There are a number of guys, some not even listed, that are going to surprise and breakout this summer.
Drew Comer is coming off a big high school season and he’s now going to get a chance to really show off his scoring ability. His ability to shoot and with his size and 6’4, should put him in a position to put up numbers. If he does and does it consistently, he’s going to be a coveted player.
Elijah Hales is a guy we have to pay attention to because he might not always be a high-volume scoring threat but everything else, literally everything else he does is at a high level. Those who pay attention, should fall in love pretty quickly.
Maurion Martin is a hidden gem in Northwest Indiana. He’s not on the best high school team but he’s preformed well each time we have watched him. Big, big guard who can score and create really well. Give him the ball and watch him go to work.
Josiah Matthews had a solid year for Fishers and he’s the kind of player that is a little bit of a firecracker. Can go off for these short spurts and can be very entertaining. He’s also going to do well in an AAU setting because of that and could be a more athletic guard to draw interests.
