Region 10 JUCO Tourney : SC Players
Prep Hoops took in the action from the Region 10 JUCO Tourney in Pinehurst, NC this weekend. Lets take a look at which former South Carolina players stood out at the event.
Jalen Cameron (FR) – Cape Fear Community College (Wilmington, NC) (pictured on front)
Cameron a West Florence HS product came up big in the semi finals win over Spartanburg Methodist College. Cameon the 6th man for the Sea Devils scored the first 7 points of the game and finished with 12 points and 6 rebounds. The Sea Devils upset the #1 ranked Pioneers 75-69. Cameron 6’5 connected on a few three pointers and really played the passing lanes well today.
The Sea Devils defeated USC-Salkehatchie 76-65 to advance to the NJCAA D1 National Tourney in Hutchinson, KS later this month. Cameron finished with 9 points.
Marquise Riley (FR) – Louisburg College (Louisburg, NC)
Riley is a FREAK athlete that played at Richland Northeast HS in Columbia. Riley 6’3 stalked the baseline on several occasions today and had some tip in baskets. Riley plays extremely hard when on the floor. The Hurricanes will play in the NJCAA D2 National Tourney in Danville, IL later this month.
Tyrell Mendenhall (FR) – Richard Bland College (Petersburg, VA)
Mendenhall “Big Hurt” played at Legacy Charter (now Legacy Early College). Mendenhall 6’8 a big-bodied post player comes off the bench for the Statesmen. Mendenhall originally from Newberry really carves out space in the paint and sets screens.
Tracus Chisholm (FR) – Spartanburg Methodist College (Spartanburg, SC)
Chisholm played at York Prep for Head Coach Frank Hambrick. Chisholm 6’0 off guard scored 8 points today in the loss. Chisholm came into the contest averaging 13.6 ppg this season while connecting on 44% (68-155) from behind the arch.
Kai Rivers (RS-FR) – Spartanburg Methodist College (Spartanburg, SC)
Rivers averaged 13.5 ppg and 5 rebounds this season for the Pioneers. Rivers 6’1 played at Faith Baptist Academy (Walterboro). Rivers a slashing guard looked to attack the rack when given the chance.
Deon Joyner (SO) – Richard Bland College (Petersburg, VA)
Joyner a Fort Dorchester HS product starts for the Statesmen. Joyner 6’9 left-handed slender-sleek post player has great length. Joyner is averaging 7 ppg a night. The Statesmen will head back to the NJCAA D2 National Tourney in Danville, IL later this month with region foe Louisburg College.
Tahj Green (SO) – Spartanburg Methodist College (Spartanburg, SC)
Green 6’8 high energy kid lacks a lot of offensive skills. Green plays with a great motor while on the floor and is better player defensively right now. Johnson a product of CA Johnson HS averaged 5.4 ppg this season.
Deshaw Andrews (SO) – USC-Salkehatchie (Walterboro, SC)
Andrews is a left-handed mismatch combo forward from York, SC. Andrews a 3rd year player will play at Alcorn State next season. Andrews averaged 16.8 ppg and 7.1 rebounds this season. Andrews finished with 20 points in the loss to Cape Fear Community College yesterday in the Region 10 Championship Game.
Reggie Wright (SO) – USC-Salkehatchie (Walterboro, SC)
Wright is a pesky left-handed point guard for the Indians. Wright a Greenville, SC native has received a offer from Mars Hill (NC) (NCAA D2). Wright 5’9 averaged 11.4 ppg, 6.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds this season for the 20-10 Indians.
