Recruiting Spotlight: 2019 Scotty Pippen Jr.
SANTA ANA, CA.— Scottie Pippen, regarded as one of the Top 50 players in the history of the game, has a son (Scotty Pippen Jr.) who is developing quite the reputation himself along the Southern California hoops landscape.
The 6-foot-2 junior is a gifted combo-guard who affects the game at both ends of the floor. Whether it is getting his teammates involved with a timely pass or attacking in transition at a relentless pace, Pippen Jr. can deliver the goods.
Pippen Jr. is one of the better two-way players in the 2019 class“Getting my teammates involved and scoring from all three levels are my strengths of the game,” Pippen Jr. told Prephoops staff.
After watching Pippen Jr. multiple times it is obvious that defense is major cog in his arsenal. That should come as no surprise as his father was one of the elite defenders in his time with the Chicago Bulls and their championship runs in the 90s.
“My dad gives me advice before and after each game,” Pippen Jr. noted. “His advice has been important in my overall development.”
Being a member of the 2019 class he knows his game has to grow for him to reach his potential. “I need to get bigger and continue to improve my overall skill package,” explains Pippen Jr.
With the “chip” on the line this weekend and the spring evaluation around the corner Pippen Jr. knows he’ll be monitored heavily by college coaches.
“UCLA, UCSB, and Princeton have shown the most interest,” notes Pippen Jr.
As Sierra Canyon approaches their titanic tilt versus perennial power Mater Dei, the Prephoops staff had a chance to see a preview of that championship match-up in the Fall when the two teams collided at Cerritos College.
The Monarchs don’t have Bol Bol (transferred to Findlay Prep) and PJ Fuller (transferred to Seattle/Garfield), but Gary McKnight and his staff have their team humming at the right time as they handled Etiwanda quite easily in the CIFSS Open Division Semi-Finals. Will it take another magnificent performance from Duane Washington of Sierra Canyon to pull out another victory for the Trailblazers over the Monarchs? Time will tell.
If Pippen Jr. has anything to do with the outcome, we know it will come in a variety of ways.
