Shakopee took a strong step forward this year with so many young players joining veterans for a ten game improvement as a team. Junior Tanner Koenen isn’t yet a veteran but he was one of the upperclassmen helping the Sabers improve.
“This season has been better for both myself and the team,” Tanner told NHR. “We’ve had a major improvement from last season where we only won four games and stood at 14-12 entering sections. I’ve been playing some good basketball as well improving in every facet of the game from last year.”
Tanner scored a couple baskets a game working with a few seniors and an excellent sophomore class to become an all around solid squad.
“This year I’ve been working on my defense and quickness,” Koenen said. “I’ve really improved that aspect of my game and my coaches look to me to play pressure defense and make stops.”
With Koenen back next year along with Caleb Druvenga, Will Cordes, and Charles Katona being juniors, and others working together, expectations will build even more next season.
“We finished the season winning 5 of our last 6 games and I think we have a good chance to surprise in our section next year.”
Tanner has started to hear from local D3 schools and will be playing his 17u year in front of those schools and more.
“St Mary’s, St John’s, and St Scholastica. I would like to see that number grow by the end of the AAU season and I plan to attend several camps as well.”
