Recruiting Report: Cole Henry (2019)
After a junior season where he led his team in assists, 6-foot-9 Oskaloosa forward Cole Henry continued to show why he’s one of the state’s most versatile high-level prospects.
Prior to this season, Nebraska-Omaha, South Dakota, Miami-Ohio, Drake, UM-Kansas City, Northern Iowa, Santa Barbara had all expressed in Henry. North Dakota had offered.
Some new schools are in the mix after he averaged 15 points, 5.5 assists and 6.9 rebounds with the Class 3A runners-up.
“All those schools are still hitting me up with texts and letters and things like that. Middle Tennessee has just started contacting me a little bit more. Drake has been contacting me a little more and I really like them,” said Henry.
“Recruitment is going well, and hopefully I can get some more looks this spring and summer.”
Drake has recently switched coaches, with Niko Medved and assistant Ali Farokhmanesh heading to Colorado State after one season with the Bulldogs.
Prior to that, Henry had mentioned Drake as a “dream school,” along with Northern Iowa.
He’ll undoubtedly get the chance to showcase himself in front of coaches from both schools this summer with Martin Brothers 17U. A team that’s added top 2019 prospects Derek Krogmann and Trey Hutcheson; both coming over from the Barnstormers.
“With Owen (Coburn) leaving, we didn’t really have a true big, and now I think we have the best big in the state for our grade with Derek. And, of course Trey has some height and he’ll be able to come in and knock down shots for us,” said Henry.
“I think we’re deadly, we’ll win a lot of tournaments this spring and summer. Everyone is really excited about it right now.”
And for Henry, he could see some additional offers come his way over the next several months.
“Last summer was a good one for me and I added a lot of recruitment and had a lot of colleges looking at me. This year I’d like like to pick up a few D1 offers and see where it goes from there,” he said.
“It’s going to be a good summer.”
