Recruiting Report: Bryant Brown (2019)
What a year Waukegan’s 2019 small forward Bryant Brown has put together! The 6’5” forward has consistently posted big numbers throughout the entire year and carried his Waukegan squad on his back. His versatility and ability to stuff the stat sheet while scoring at a high rate have been impressive this season. PHI caught up with Brown to chat about his big junior campaign, upcoming critical summer, and recruiting.
Brown is averaging 24 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 dimes per game as a junior. How does he feel it has gone this year?
“I think I’ve been having a pretty good season. Leading a really young team through a lot of adversity this year, but pretty nice.”
He spoke with PHI about the biggest growth in his game.
“Definitely my shooting all-around and perimeter defense. I’ve been running the point guard sometimes.”
Where do things stand with recruiting?
“I’ve had Northwestern at a couple games, but that is it.”
What stands out about Northwestern to Brown?
“Well they just came to our Christmas tournament in Wheeling and came to one of our home games. I talked to him after the game and he just gave me some tips and said they’ll stay in touch with me for sure. They have a pretty good program. School wise and sports wise.”
Brown rattled off the schools he is hearing from.
“Northwestern the most, but Tulsa, Drake, Milwaukee-Wisconsin, Miami (OH), Loyola, and some others.”
What will he be looking forward to this summer on the UAA circuit with the Illinois Wolves?
“Winning! I feel like we ended the summer on a good note. Had good fall workouts. I think we will be pretty good.”
It is crazy to me that he still does not have a single D1 offer on the table at this point. Brown is the #5 overall prospect and #2 small forward in the 2019 class. Look for this to be a mid-major plus/high-major recruitment heading into the fall.
