Recruiting Report: Boston Grimes (2018)
This season, Johnson guard Boston Grimes made huge strides to establish himself as one of Iowa’s top guards.
As the leading scorer on one of class 4A’s best teams, Grimes went from mostly unknown to hot commodity among area Division III and JuCo coaches.
“Recruitment was picking up a little bit in the middle of the season, but then after the Waukee game (at state) I started getting a lot more attention,” said Grimes, who scored a game-high 24 points in the Dragons’ narrow loss to Waukee at the state tournament.
Dubuque, Bethany, SWCC, Iowa Lakes and Simpson are the schools recruiting him most right now. He visited Bethany last week and will visit Iowa Lakes, Dubuque and SWCC this week.
Grimes says JuCo is an option that intrigues him.
“I really like to JuCo option, just because it’s an opportunity to get stronger and develop as a player,” said Grimes. “I feel like I’m just starting to figure out how to use my skill-set, so If I can get stronger, I feel like I could become a lot more dangerous on the court.”
After averaging less than one point per game, Grimes led the Dragons in scoring this season with 16 points per game. He credits his teammates’ skill for his prolific scoring.
“I guess it all started at the beginning of the year, I was working out a lot and in the gym a lot. Once we got in the season, it was hard to guard us, because you have Camden (Vander Zwaag) and you had to respect our shooters. So, whenever I attacked the paint it was pretty wide-open,” said Grimes.
“We just had a lot of weapons and it opened up the floor for me, and I thrived with the offense that we ran.”
Boston Grimes is ranked by Prep Hoops as a top 200 prospect in his class.
