Recap of the SWX Classic All Star Game: Tri-Cities vs Yakima
Its not everyday that you get this much talent on on court but last Saturday they best players from Yakima and Tri-Cities got together on one court for the last high school game of the season. The SWX Classic all star game was previously called the Media Classic. The final media classic game was played back in 2015. Now with the new sponsor SWX brought the game back and what a game it was.
The game started off with a thunderous alley oop dunk by Davis high schools Collin Kelley. Kelley received a pass from Gonzaga commit Brock Ravet, who threw a perfectly timed pass at the rim that Kelly got after coming off a back screen. The crowed erupted, it was a great start to an all star game.
After the high flying dunk, the game turned into a 3 point contest. Brock Ravet of Kittitas showed why he will be playing at Gonzaga after next season showing off his handles and long range throughout the game. Sunnysides senior Trey Sanchez caught fire the half. He finished 9-15 and 25 points. Elijah Pepper of Selah took home the player of the game award as he showed once again why he’s one of the best players in the state shooting 10-22 finishing with 25 points.
Art Palacios ran point guard for the second unit. He has some of the best vision in the state when it comes to passing the ball. West Valley’s Dallin Cluff had a good showing going 4-8 and 11 points. Zillah high school’s knock down shooter Tony Salines, and Toppenish’s shifty point guard Isiah Perez lead the 3rd unit.
Even though this game was a game where 137 3point shots were taken Davis’ Collin Kelley and Mid Columbia Conference POY Riley Sorn battled down low all night. Standing at 7’4, Sorn had a few dunks where he caught the ball high and threw it down making it look easy.
At the end of the first quarter Pasco’s Diego Gutierrez wow’ed the crowed with an impressive spin move and layup beating the buzzer that capped a large run for team Tri Cities. Ryan Wagar of Richland, at one point hit 3 consecutive 3 pointers. One further the next. He finished with a team high 15 points. Eastern Washington football commit Champ Grayson finished the night second in scoring going 4-9 finishing with 13 points.
