Prospect Watch: Cameron Vaughn (2019)
Cooper junior Cameron Vaughn has been a part of the Cooper Hawks program that won their league this year and made their push to being a top ten team in the state.
Cameron was a part of a solid Cooper guard group that includes Jalen Justice, Jalen Miller, Nate Hill, and others. They had an excellent year winning 14 of their last 15 games before running into Orono at state and giving them a battle before a ten point loss.
“Things went great this year,” Cameron said. “We won the Conference Championship for the first time since 2013. This season was great as I said and we are just coming off an conference championship since 2013 which boasts our confidence and momentum coming into future.”
Vaughn became a key part of the rotation because he improved his game on both ends of the court for the Hawks.
“I feel like my game made huge improvements since the past year such as shooting and getting to the basket aggressive and finishing,” Cameron said. “Also defending. I seen improvement because I am scoring a lot more than the past year by getting to the basket and spotting up for three and knocking it down.
“Also my coaches always have me guard either the bigs or one of there best guards which lets me know my coaches believes in my defensive play.”
A few schools have started to make calls to Cameron about the future. With a brother playing in the NBA – Rashad Vaughn – Cameron of course has a chance to learn the game in a way that is different than most. And that sounds like a good reason to keep an eye on him going forward, that and he’s become a much better player this season.
“A couple colleges that are sending me letters that are division two interested in me such as Sioux Falls and St.Augustine, ” Cameron said.
