Prospect Spotlight: Jackson Waring (2020)
A two-sport standout with a big spring and summer ahead of him, Des Moines Christian wing Jackson Waring is a guy that can do a little bit of everything for his squad.
The sophomore played in the post for the Lions this past season, but his more natural position is out on the wing, where he sports a silky jumper and some QB court vision.
“I like to be out on the wing and be able to drive and shoot and have some freedom,” said Waring.
“I see the court real well, since I’m a quarterback it comes naturally when I’m out on the court. I’m physical with my rebounding and I can go to the rim strong.”
Waring averaged five points and 4.1 rebounds per game this season for the Lions. And is one part of a stacked 2020 class that will make DMC dangerous for years to come.
“I thought I played pretty well this season. My main role was to be a rebounder and just be strong with the ball. And make sure I was finishing at the basket and getting my teammates open when I wasn’t,” said Waring, who elaborated on the strong sophomore class.
“We talk about it a lot, and people were saying this was supposed to be a rebuilding year, but now we’re all familiar with each other. Going 20-3, we see that as a good start for the next two years at Des Moines Christian.”
Waring was also the starting quarterback of the football team as a sophomore. Iowa State invited him to Ames for a game and an unofficial visit last fall.
He says football is his main sport right now, but he’s not ruling out playing hoops in college.
“Honestly, football is what I see myself playing. I like to get the adrenaline pumping and knowing I can go out there and be physical,” said Waring.
“Basketball is still on the table, I’m playing for Beyond Ball 16U and looking forward to an exciting season with them.”
He added: “I’m looking forward to going all over the country and getting lots of exposure. Playing against all that competition will help expand my game for next year at Des Moines Christian.”
