Preview: Class 1 State Quarterfinals
Here is a look at the upcoming Class 1 state quarterfinals and predictions. Tip off four the games are set for 7:45 p.m. unless otherwise noted:
Advance (24-6) vs. Eminence (29-1) at Van Buren: Eminence has enjoyed a brilliant season with only one loss. That one loss came at the hands of Advance to open the season. Ironically, it was Advance that ended the Redwings’ season in last year’s state quarterfinals. This should be a hot one. (Prediction: Eminence)
Chamois (20-9) vs. Slater (17-12) at Salisbury: After getting eliminated in the sectionals the past two years, Chamois broke through this year with a victory over Jamestown to advance to the quarterfinals. Slater is enjoying an impressive turnaround season after winning just nine games last season. They are now one game from the Final Four. (Prediction: Chamois)
Walnut Grove (20-10) vs. Lakeland (26-3), 2:45 p.m., at Clinton: The defending champs came out smoking with an 81-43 over Sheldon in the sectionals while Lakeland was just as impressive in its 72-44 victory over Green ridge. Walnut Grove seems to be peaking at the right time. (Prediction: Walnut Grove)
Worth County (24-5) vs. North Andrew (27-0) at St. Joe Civic Center: A rematch of last year’s state quarterfinal game, which was won by North Andrew. Both teams have good size, balanced scoring and postseason experience. (Prediction: North Andrew)
