Predicting the 2018-19 Division 2 State Tournament Field
Who will play for the WIAA Division 2 state championship in 2018-19? Prep Hoops Wisconsin makes our way too early predictions.
* Does not account for potential changes to sectionals and divisions
Sectional 1 – La Crosse Central
Central has reached the state tournament in each of the last three seasons. The Red Raiders very well could make it four. Their core of Noah Parcher, Johnny Davis, Terrance Thompson, and Jordan Davis all return. This was a unit that won all of their regional and sectional games by 14 points or more before being eliminated by Milwaukee Washington in the semifinals.
Sectional 2 – Nicolet
This team will have a different makeup without Jack Brahm, but Jamari Sibley is poised for bigger things as a junior. The Knights finished this season strong and reached the sectional semifinals before giving eventual state champion Kaukauna a run for their money. Look for 2019 point guard Sonny Phinisee to make a big jump as a senior.
Sectional 3 – Westosha Central
Getting a taste of the big stage, Central wasn’t fazed by Kaukauna in the semifinal loss. They could come back even stronger next season. 2019 wing Jaeden Zackery looks poised for big things after a breakout junior campaign. Putting together a 22-5 mark in 2017-18, the Falcons return three of their top four scorers.
Sectional 4 – Milwaukee Washington
Assuming this group stays intact, Washington should make a run for a gold ball next season. 2019 wing Deontay Long and 2021 F/C Michael Foster Jr. are a dangerous 1-2 punch. Jordan Dinsmore will be difficult to replace, but this group still has a lot of firepower and some young pieces that didn’t play this season, but should be ready to contribute as sophomores.
