Okawville Wins 1A Championship
Okawville does it! After coming so close a year ago in the championship game the southern Illinois 1A power captured the state championship in Peoria on Saturday afternoon. In the championship game Okawville defeated Annawan by a final score of 59-48.
The game was tight throughout most of the contest being tied after the first quarter and at the half. In the most important game of the season the third quarter was the difference as Okawville outscored Annawan 19-6 and they never looked back.
Okawville was led by Wyatt Krohne who had 18 points on 6-13 shooting. Two other players were in double figures as Payten Harre posted 14 points along with 11 rebounds and Luke Hensler went for 11 points. Caleb Frederking was efficient with 6 points (2-3 FG) and 3 dimes.
Annawan was led in scoring by Owen Landwehr who had 20 points (8-12 FG) and 8 boards. Ben Buresh and Brendon Shaw each reached double figures.
Okawville finished the season 27-8 and will bring the state championship back to southern Illinois.
