Notebook: Recruiting Notes From Vacation
The high school season has come to a conclusion and I’m finally back from vacation before the AAU season gets started, for some as early as this weekend. Within the large amount of things there are to catch up on coming back, one is to look at what happened in recruiting while I was gone.
So today, we do a quick recap of those that picked up offers, announced their transfers, and made commitments over the last week or so. Here is the full recap.
Commits: The list of commits below is bigger than I thought it would be. The biggest surprises come from Donald Lee and Miles Tracy. Really good pickups for both IU-East and IU-South Bend. Both teams picked up a pair of commits in the last week or two that will really change the face of their future. Really like the Christian Harvey to Marian commit. Really good fit and should be able to play.
Garrett Silcott (Connersville) – IU-East
Alex Gross (Hauser) – Olivet Nazarene
Christian Harvey (Richmond) – Marian
Donald Lee (North Central) – IU-East
Miles Tracy (Cardinal Ritter) – IU-South Bend
Cory McKinney (South Bend Washington) – Indiana Tech
Noah Mahoney (Chesterton) – Rock Valley C.C.
Luke Stephens (Fairfield) – Indiana Wesleyan
Offers: Mason Gillis picking up an offer from Ohio State was a big one but a very strategic one as well. He gets a very competitive offer right before the AAU season starts and gives him a little faith from the staff before they waited before the Live Periods come. Chinn getting high first true scholarship offer was big as well from Indy.
Jaylin Chinn (Bosse) – Indianapolis
Mason Gillis (New Castle) – Ohio State
Jason Moore (Bishop Chatard) – Quincy
Drew Comer (Greensburg) – IU-East
Ali Alquraishy (Indy Manual) – Dodge City C.C.
Transfers: The transfer market with ties back to Indiana is going to be very, very large this year. Doubt this is anywhere near the full list but there are already quite a few big names. Hearing Ryan Taylor, who has been around forever, will have the Elite teams coming in. Dru Smith is getting Big Ten level offers. Johnson, Wilburn, Welage, and Milligan will be looking at Grad Transfer options or. in Milligan’s case, sit one, play one. Will be most interested to see what happens with some of these guys who might have to take drops down a level.
Jajuan Starks – Eastern Illinois
Parker Hazen – Valparaiso
Tye Wilburn – Wright State
Jalen Morgan – Western Illinois
Taishaun Johnson – Kent State
Ryan Taylor – Evansville
Dru Smith – Evansville
Ryan Welage – San Jose State
Evan Milligan – Kentucky Wesleyan
Reggie Jones – Western Michigan
