Northstar Weekly Honors: Cire Mayfield
Senior point guard Cire Mayfield‘s St. Louis Park career may be over, but he’s going out having earned Northstar Weekly Honors (44% of the total vote) for his scoring burst in the opening round of sections.
Mayfield dropped 32 points on Washburn to win handily, 85-70. There were extra motivators involved; one, he was finally healthy again. And two, it could very well have been his last high school game, so he wasn’t going out without a fight.
“For the Washburn game, that was my first game back from my injury,” Cire told NHR, “so I had the mindset to go out and attack all game long. Knowing that it could have been my last and final game as a senior, I didn’t want it to end that night… so I just tried to play as hard as possible.”
Now that the season has ended, Cire will look towards the next level.
“I’m going on some college visits pretty soon to see which ones I like better,” Mayfield said. “Some Iowa junior colleges and St. Thomas.”
