NCHSAA 3A State Championship Preview
The NCHSAA 3A State Championship game has a chance to be a very special game, both teams are defending state champs with Cox Mill winning 3A last year and Northside HS winning 2A while going undefeated. Things could get really interesting as these teams both have something to prove and there will be various amounts of talent on the court.
How They Got To The State Championship:
Cox Mill: 62-27 Win over Asheboro, 78-34 Win over Southwest Guilford, 81-57 Win over Mount Tabor, 87-57 Win over Jesse Carson and a 61-49 Win over Ben L Smith.
Star Power wise, there hasn’t been a public school team in the state that has the players that are as recognizable as Cox Mill HS. They feature the #1 prospect in the state for 2019 as well as a top player nationally in Wendell Moore as well as nationally ranked 2018 Guard Rechon Leaky Black. For many that’s all the players from the team that they recognize, however Junior Forward Caleb Stone-Carrawell is a player in his own right and put together a solid season as a role player for the team. For the season they currently have a record of 28-3 going into the state championship matchup.
Northside HS: 77-43 Win over Smithfield-Selma, 70-36 Win over East Wake, 73-33 win over Terry Sanford, 57-55 win over New Hanover, 73-71 win over Eastern Guilford.
The Monarchs don’t have the bigtime names that your local blogger will recognize or even players that are at the top of anyone’s list rankings wise. Instead this team has a unit of players that play extremely well in their system and possess one of the longest winning streaks around at 59 games. Queen University Commit Kenny Dye and D2 prospect Gabe Kirkendoll both have played well all year while the squad has also picked up nice production from Jason Robinson, Demetrius Jones and Jason Mixon, all of who are seniors. With close games in their last two matchups, this team is prepared for just about anything to happen which should make things very interesting on Saturday their record overall this year is 29-0.
