Key Match-Ups at Upstate/WNC Showcase
The Justin Byerly Upstate/WNC Showcase is this Saturday at Cox Mill High School in Concord, North Carolina. Some of the best players in the state will showcase their talent in front of media, college coaches, and scouts. In this column we take a look at some of the top match-ups we are expecting to see on Saturday.
D’Angelo ElliottMalik Johnson vs El Ellis
This match-up will feature two of the top guards in the state in the 2019 class going at it. Ellis is a 6-foot-1 guard at Mt. Zion in Raleigh and Johnson is a 6-foot-1 guard at Word of God Academy in Raleigh. Both have significant offers from colleges and both are known for putting the basketball in the basket. This should be a really good match-up between two of the top prospects at the event.
Ben Beeker vs Justus Shelton
This is a match-up between two of the top public school big men in the area. Beeker is a 6-foot-9 junior at Hendersonville High School who runs the floor well, blocks shots and can get to the foul line against Shelton, a 6-foot-9 forward at Mountain Heritage High School in the sophomore class. Shelton is a skilled big man that can stretch the floor with his shooting and can score in the paint.
Axel Holm vs Callin Randolph
These two guards are two of the top guards in the region for the 2020 class and both are legitimate long-range shooters and are in range when they walk into the gym. Randolph recently set the record at Mountain Heritage High School for the most three-point makes in a game. Both can handle the ball really well and are known for their high basketball IQ.
De’Angelo Elliott vs Reggie Raynor
This is going to be one to watch, with the size and athleticism of both of these athletes. Both are physical and have length to their game. Both can shoot the ball well from all areas on the floor and both are able to finish at the rim. Elliott is a strong defender that can get his long arms into passing lanes and is quick in the open floor.
