Jayson Brown Recruiting (2018)
Beech High School senior point guard Jayson Brown (PrepHoopsTN #89) is winding down his recruitment. In the coming weeks the 6-foot-3 floor general will almost certainly make his college decision.
“I’m still trying to decide,’ shared Jayson Brown March 20th.
Most of the season Brown and father/Beech Head Coach Kip Brown focused on expanding the fishing net. The goal was to add more and more college offers. Throughout that process Lindenwood-Belleville (NAIA) hovered. They persisted with interest and invitations.
In December the Lindenwood-Belleville coaching staff and Brown were looking to line up a second college visit. They made that dream a reality a week ago.
“I visited Lindenwood-Belleville last Monday and I’m planning on visiting Oglethorpe (D3) in a few weeks then I will pick a school,” said Jayson Brown.
Weaknesses
Jayson needs to add upper body definition. He maintains a quickness needed to get in to the lane at the D3 level, but he lacks the powerful body to sustain a lot of and-1’s.
In 2017-2018 JB proved he can shoot the three-point shot. Unfortunately, his team needed him to facilitate and penetrate more than establish that jumper. If his college team needs 3-4 made triples per night from him, can Brown deliver? That is not a certainty.
Strengths
As mentioned Jayson Brown is quick. He can burst by most defenders with the ball tethered to his hand. Brown is able to score on all three levels, but usually picks the layups or outside jumpers.
Breaking backcourt pressure tends to be rather easy for the tall guard.
Most importantly, Jayson Brown possesses natural leadership traits. He has lead and will lead any team he is placed on. For most college coaches the worry with talented basketball players is, ‘Are they going to be eligible? Are they going to get into trouble or cause my staff problems off the court?’ With Jayson Brown the answers are yes and no respectively.
Jayson Brown is a model student-athlete perfectly capable of taking instruction and implementing it in both his game and the team’s execution.
