Grassroots Preview: M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs 17u
With the Kentucky high school season in our rear view mirror, it’s time to start looking forward to the Grassroots AAU season. Continuing our coverage, we take a look at Coach John Adkins’ M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs 17u squad. The Mustangs roster consists of several of Kentucky’s top players in 2019 and 2 players from West Virginia. The Mustangs are coming off of a successful 16u campaign and expect to draw the attention of dozens of Division I coaches once they hit the road in April.
Roster:
Mason Shifflett, Teays Valley (WV) – A native of Shepherdsville who started his high school career playing for Bullitt Central, Shifflett holds a D1 offer from Stetson in Florida.
TreVon Smith, Taylor County – A 6’3 Combo guard, Smith averaged 20 points and 6 rebounds per game. TreVon holds offer from Morehead State and Campbellsville with interest from a dozen other D1 schools.
JJ Kalakon, Waggener – 6’4 and capable of playing 1-4 on the court, Kalakon averaged 13 points and 5 rebounds for the Wildcats. JJ has been offered by Robert Morris, Morehead State and SEMO.
Dontaie Allen, Pendleton County – A first team all state performer, Allen holds offers from IUPUI, NKU, Illinois State, Winthrop, Morehead State and EKU.
Brennan Canada, George Rogers Clark – A 6’7″ stretch 4, Canada has interest from several D1 schools. Brennan averaged 13 points and 7 rebounds for Coach Cook’s Cardinal squad this year.
Jordan Graham, George Rogers Clark – Graham was playing his best basketball of his career at the end of the season for GRC. Jordan averaged 12 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists per game as a junior and recently picked up offers from Tennessee Tech and Campbellsville.
McKinley Mann, James Monroe (WV) – 6’10” with ability to stretch the floor, Mann averaged 20 points, 13 rebounds and 6.3 blocks per game in his Junior season and has a D2 offer from West Virginia Wesleyan.
Isaiah Cozart, Madison Central – A few blocks shy of the career blocks record in Kentucky with a whole senior season ahead, the 6’7″ Junior holds offers from Morehead State, NKU, EKU and Winthrop heading into the AAU season.
