The City of Wilmington has produced some very nice athletes over the years, including recent Arizona Grad Kadeem Allen who was drafted by the Boston Celtics. With Malique Jacobs already signed to go to Hutch CC, the spotlight light has turned to the younger guys such as Jajuan Carr of Trask HS and the player that we will be talking about today which is Khalil Marshall. The first time I got to see this youngster play was during some open gym workouts in Fayetteville last summer prior to his freshman year in high school. He knocked down shots at a high level, got to his spots on the court without much of a problem and had the poise of a player that had been playing high school basketball for quite a few years.
Fast Forward a few months and we see him again at that Prep Hoops Camp at Cox Mill HS and once again he impressed with how well he played and we were excited to see what would happen for him once the high school basketball season begun. Khalil enrolled at Pender HS and he hit the ground running, coming up with some big time games including a 4o point game against rival Trask HS. He would go on to average 20 points and 6 assist per game and even though the team would finish 11-14 , they would make some noise in the conference and will be a much better team next season.
His play earned him an invite to play in the Basketball Elite Fab 40 Camp, this event features the top unsigned talent on the eastern side of the state including a high amount of unsigned seniors. With only two freshman on the entire camp roster he was one of the youngest players so of course we were once again interested to see how he would perform. As usual he played at a very high level against the older competition and was one of the top scorers at over 11 points per game. It’s still early but there is no doubt in my mind that if he continues to work hard, he can be a very special player and prospect.
