G Tyler Skaggs talks college plans, AAU ball and more
Originally a 2019 guard, Tyler Skaggs did dual enrollment at St. Petersburg College.
With his credits almost complete, he will be headed to college in the spring. Currently, the 5’8″ guard is spending the early part of the AAU season playing for Hard2Guard in Colorado.
Skaggs was previously with Team Under Pressure a summer ago.
During his sophomore campaign at Pinellas Park, Skaggs was out for almost a month battling mono. He eventually stepped away from the team because of his weight loss and struggles with that. He says playing with the Patriots taught him to be a leader and to pick his teammates up after his worst games.
On top of that, Skaggs lost both of his grandfathers to cancer. He says he promised them that everything he does now will be for them.
No offers have come yet for Skaggs, but he’s drawn interest from JUCO programs Florida National University and Trinity College.
He calls his shooting, ball handling and passing his three biggest strengths. Skaggs says he’s a pass-first guard.
Currently, he wants to get his vertical higher. He said his vertical was 33.7 last summer when he attended a team camp at UF.
Skaggs will be looking for an opportunity at the collegiate level as he works on getting better in the AAU season.
