Class B: Manning and Hankamp Predict the Quarterfinals
Class B in Michigan was loaded with talented players and high quality teams. Having reached the quarterfinals, the Class B state championship is in sight. Zachary Manning and Scott Hankamp, two Prep Hoops Michigan contributors, will predict the games and provide players to watch.
Benton Harbor vs. Williamston
Scott Hankamp:
Benton Harbor Player to Watch- Carlos Johnson (2020, F). He’s one of the most physically strong forwards in the state. The walking double-double is an elite player on the national level.
Williamston Player to Watch- Cole Kleiver (2018, G). This young man can score. He has a nice jumper and plays through contact taking the ball to the rim.
Prediction: Benton Harbor
Zachary Manning:
Benton Harbor Player to Watch- Justin Brown (2019, F). He is an athletic forward that likes to get out in transition. Brown is also very active around the rim and rebounds the ball well.
Williamston Player to Watch- Sean Cobb (2019, F). Cobb is a great all around defender. He blocks a ton of shots and that helps Williamston get out in transition.
Prediction: Benton Harbor
Dearborn Divine Child vs. River Rouge
Scott Hankamp:
Dearborn Divine Child Player to Watch- Quinn Blair (2018, SF). He’s an athletic wing who can score at all three levels. Blair is one of the top seniors in Michigan.
River Rouge Player to Watch- Nigel Colvin (2019, G). He’s a team first player who can score when needed. He’s one of the top perimeter defenders in the 2019 class.
Prediction: River Rouge
Zachary Manning:
Dearborn Divine Child Player to Watch- Parker LePage (2019, G). Blair is the go to scorer for Divine Child, but LePage is a a good shot creator that can really put the ball in the basket.
River Rouge Player to Watch- Jayvien Torrance-Jackson (2018, G). Being the only senior on the team, Torrance-Jackson is a great leader. He is an excellent on ball defender and capable scorer.
Prediction: River Rouge
New Haven vs. Bridgeport
Scott Hankamp:
New Haven Player to Watch- Romeo Weems (2019, SF). He’s a top ranked player nationally in the class of 2019. Weems has the ability to contribute in multiple ways, and essentially, in whatever way his team needs.
Bridgeport Player to Watch- SirQuarius Ball (2019, F). Ball is a very good rebounder, especially on the offensive end. He’s a tough and aggressive athlete who embraces doing the dirty work in the paint.
Prediction: New Haven
Zachary Manning:
New Haven Player to Watch- Ashton Sherrell (2018, C). Sherrell is an absolute beast down low. He’s an excellent rebounder, shot blocker and scorer that likes to get out and run.
Bridgeport Player to Watch- Charles Garrett (2018, G). Garrett is a great two way player. He averages just over 19 points per game and rebounds the ball very well for a guard.
Prediction: New Haven
Grand Rapids Catholic Central vs. Boyne City
Scott Hankamp:
GRCC Player to Watch- Marcus Bingham (2018, F). Bingham is a long big man that can score from all levels. He’s athletic with great footwork.
Boyne City Player to Watch- Mason Gardner (2018, G/F). He’s an experienced three year varsity player and an essential leader on the Boyne City team.
Prediction: Grand Rapids Catholic Central
Zachary Manning:
GRCC Player to Watch- Jacob Polakovich (2018, F). Polakovich is a big that passes really well out of the post and knocks down outside shots with consistency.
Boyne City Player to Watch- Eric Carson (2018, G). He is a very smart player that scores in bunches. In the Ramblers win over Standish-Sterling on Wednesday, Carson scored eight points in the third quarter and 16 total.
Prediction: Grand Rapids Catholic Central
