Best Available: 2018 PF
The senior seasons have concluded for the class of 2018. Now it is time for them to focus on their futures in college. For many that means taking visits and making a call. Others there is still work to be done playing in unsigned senior showcases or this spring on the travel team circuit to try to get more attention from college coaches. We recently released our final 2018 rankings. With that being said we are breaking down the Best Available at each position in the state. Here are the top unsigned power forwards on the board!
Raekwon Drake (Orr)
Level Projection: LM+/JUCO
Travel Team: Team Rose
Drake is a prospect that we have covered for four years and as a senior I think he found who he is as a player. Undersized four man that has elite athleticism, toughness, and rebounds in traffic. Quickness scoring around the hoop. Classic junk yard dog with some upside.
Dusan Mahorcic (Niles Notre Dame)
Level Projection: LM
Travel Team: Illinois Wolves
Mahorcic made major strides as a senior. He is still learning the game, but the 6’9” big man is starting to put it all together. Skilled scorer with his back to the basket and athleticism has really improved. Volume rebounder this season.
Treavon and Tyree Martin (Curie)
Level Projection: LM
Travel Team: Team Rose
Martin brothers recently opened things back up as they decommitted from Tennessee State. The 6’8″ power forward duo are more of a defensive presence at this stage with shot blocking and rebounding.
Cameron Burrell (Morgan Park)
Level Projection: LM/D2+
Travel Team: Mac Irvin Fire
Burrell is a high energy four man that has had an outstanding senior season for the Mustangs. Quickness around the hoop allows him to get on the offensive glass. Most of his points come on put backs and in transition.
Kyle King (St. Charles North)
Level Projection: D2
Travel Team: Tri City Thunder
Uber skilled four man that can play both with his back to the basket and facing up. Efficient with his touches making sound decisions and rebounds well.
Jordan Boyd (St. Joseph’s)
Level Projection: D2
Travel Team: Chicago Lockdown
Crafty four man that scores on the block with an array of moves. Not the best athlete, but he knows how to score in the paint. Solid rebounder.
Dontia Johnson (Romeoville)
Level Projection: D3
Travel Team: Hoops4Health
Ultimate boom or bust guy. He is a 6’7” four man that is on the all-airport team, but the production is so hit and miss. Athleticism is a plus and flashes potential on the interior, but the consistency is a major concern.
Caleb Strohmeier (Edwardsville)
Level Projection: D3
Travel Team: Jets-Ramey United
Skilled and tough four man that has improved his low-post game over the years. Solid rebounder that can also step out to hit a three in the pick and pop.
Jack Sorenson (Wheaton North)
Level Projection: D3
Travel Team: Mercury Elite
Sorenson can score with his back to the basket and is efficient with his touches. Soft touch around the hoop. Pick and pop ability and has solid mobility for a four man.
Jacob Hall (Alton Marquette)
Level Projection: D3
Travel Team: Gateway Illinois
Hall has good size and mobility at 6’7”. Excellent area rebounder that snatches boards with his strong hands. Versatile offensive threat. Hall has expanded his game to where he is now a legit threat in the pick and pop game shooting it. Good screener that can both pop and roll to the hoop. Strong hands catching passes in traffic and finishes with a soft touch around the rim. Seals in the high/low game. Solid passer out of the post.
Toraze Dobbs (Uplift)
Level Projection: D3/JUCO
Travel Team: Mac Irvin Fire
Dobbs is a very productive high school four man that has a thick body. Scores in the paint with toughness and is a quality rebounder. Stretches the floor. Lacks athleticism.
Blake Weiss (Mascoutah)
Level Projection: D3
Travel Team: Jets-Ramey United
Athletic four man that runs the floor well and shows flashes of face up game. Brings upside at the small college level.
Jordan Morris (Proviso East)
Level Projection: D3
Travel Team: Kessel Heat
Looks like an NFL defensive end! Physically impressive forward with athleticism and power. Lacks skill.
