Recruiting Report: Cade Goggleye (2019)
North Woods guard Cade Goggleye has been a big game producer all season long. The Grizzlies are one of the Class A state title contenders and Goggleye has been a leader every step of the way.
Against Mesabi East the junior had 39 points on nine threes with ten assists. Cade had a game high 17 in a big win over Nevis, 31 in a key holiday event victory in December and 32 the previous night, he went over a thousand career points early in the year, and Cade had that 62 point game early in December. North Woods is 27-1 on the season.
“Things are going well for the team and me at this point in the season,” Cade said “We still have things we can tweak and fix but otherwise things are going great for us. I feel like this year I’m being more aggressive in scoring, getting open looks for my teammates, and defense. Just being able to get rolling faster is key.”
North Woods plays for the sub-section championship against Lakeview Christian on Thursday and if they win that game they face the winner of Ely and Wrenshall on Saturday night to play for state. North Woods has defeated Ely and Lakeview Christian by big numbers earlier in the year. They have not played Wrenshall yet though, a team that is 25-2. Either way, North Woods is thinking state title.
“We aren’t thinking ahead, our coaches do a good job of telling us to focus on the upcoming game and not future games,” Cade said. “However, we made a goal at the beginning of the year and it was to win the section, then hopefully make a run at the state championship again.”
Cade is starting to hear from college programs as well. That interest will only increase with the playoffs hitting their peak and the 17U season coming up.
“I’ve had a couple college coaches talk to me but Saint John’s is the only college that is sending me stuff as of right now,” Cade said. “I also went to visit at UMD this past month. I was told they were interested and they’d be at a couple of my AAU tourneys with the Comets this upcoming summer.”
North Woods is a balanced team. Several talented players all working together and several getting chances to produce. Cade has solid numbers scoring around 19 or 20 a game, and his percentages are high. Cade is not only a high level shooter, but he also he’s also become a higher level playmaker as well.
