The class of 2021 is a deep one and when looking at those that fall into the best athletes, there are plenty to draw from. The best players in the state need to have some athleticism and the best of the best have a ton of it. With our look at these five players, there are some high end guys in this list.
Piece Thomas is not only the best athlete in the state for 2021 but probably the best athlete we have seen in some time, maybe since Gary Harris. He’s athletic in the normal ways, explosive to the rim, elite quickness, but also in those ways you don’t always think about. His first step and quickness with the ball in his hand are on another level. He really isn’t bound by a lack of any sort of athleticism but only what he can think of in the moment. A once-in-a-decade type player.
Khristian Lander isn’t necessarily explosive at the rim but he does everything else and has a quick first step and great lateral quickness. With his length and that foot speed, he’s got the ability to be a great defender and will provide a lot of great finishes at the rim. If he gains some more strength in the coming years, he’s going to be that much more impressive.
Brett Bosley is among the biggest athletes and much of that is due to his explosiveness and strength. He’s not small by any means and has enough strength that he overpowers people when they match up against him. He’s a high-flyer and when he can, he finish with a lot of flash above the rim. He has the hops and strength to power his way to the rim.
Trevor Taylor is simliar to Bosley in his build and athletic ability but he’s got even more with his lateral quickness. Good on-ball defender in the making and tons of upside as the skill continues to develop. He’s a big guard already and has that overpowering nature. He’s shown the ability to fly at the rim and finish with strength. Given time, he’s only going to get better.
Crishawn Christmas is a bouncy, long athlete with so much range and ability. He’s not extremely tall right now, only 6’3 but he’s going to get bigger and his length, which might be +5 or so already, will really make him a fun player to watch. Great rebounder and has that bounce to get up and reel in plays at the rim. In transition, he’s at his most potent and productive.
