The Villages Charter v. Wildwood: STANDOUTS
The Villages Charter is the 13th-best team in Class 5A. But on Thursday night, they played like the team to beat against Wildwood—on the road, at that. The Buffalo led my as much as 36 in the third, earning a 64-37 win over the Wildcats. Let’s take a look at some of the standouts.
Tre Mann – Villages: Twenty-three points, eight rebounds, one W. Tre had it clicking, early. He notched 14 of his points in the first quarter, alone. Whether for deep threes or tough drives to the bucket, the entire gym expected him to knock it down. In this particular game, Tre kept his silence until the game was nearly over. Up until then, just a quiet assassin. Loved the poise.
Mac Harris – Villages: Just a sophomore, I can tell this guy has a solid future ahead of him if he can continue to work. Harris was second on the team in scoring last night with 13 points. He knocked down three triples, in the process. He’s a stout 6’0” wing that could play the four if Villages decides to go small. Loved his motor. When he drives it to the rack, his dribbles are purposeful.
Kris Wilson – Wildwood: Wilson led his Wildcats in scoring with 10 points on the night. But it was his demeanor that drew my attention. In the game’s worst points, he did not hang his head. He did not pout. He tried his best to make things happen for his team. In any situation, you can’t ignore an attitude such as that.
Oscene “Nate” Mikell – Wildwood: He’s only a freshman. But in the fourth quarter, he was rising up for slams like he was trying to get signed, tomorrow. Mikell has an incredible leaping ability on the fastbreak, especially being that young. On two consecutive plays, he was able to out run defenders to jam it home, giving the Wildwood crowd something to cheer about, in-spite of. Look out for him as he grows.
