Upset: Del City knocks off Carl Albert
Carl Albert has not lost many games on their home court since Mason Harrell and Trey Hopkins freshman years. The Titans were upset by a scrappy Del City bunch in the Class 5A Regional Championship game. The Eagles Head Coach Lenny Hatchett had his team ready to play from the tip. Del City had lost their two previous games to Carl Albert this season but had confidence from the last time they played. Colleges players were all over the floor in this matchup. Get the scoop on what players colleges should know at all levels.
Mason Harrell 2018 Carl Albert Point Guard
All night long Del City struggled to slow down Mason Harrell. He displayed his craftiness scoring and dishing assists at a high level. Texas State was in attendance watching Harrell they are recruiting him the hardest out of any schools at this time. The competitiveness of Harrell is off the charts. When the Titans needed big baskets Harrel hit them right on cue. Size has always been the question with Harrell, but he has a lot of factors in his game you can’t teach. The intangibles along with his skills set make him a can’t miss guy for NCAA Division I Low Major programs. Harrell showed great leadership in the tough loss. This is not the last we have heard from the Titans.
Issac Beverly 2018 Del City Wing (Signed Independence JUCO Football)
Beverly was one of the biggest reason Del City pulled off the upset on Monday night. He was all over the floor on both ends especially when Del City needed him the most. When there was a clutch play to be made, Beverly delivered. Offensively, Beverly scored the ball best getting to the basket. With the game in the balance, Beverly nailed the free throw that put Carl Albert away. If he was not a football star Beverly would be a great NCAA Division II basketball recruit. The leadership Beverly brings to Del City is off the charts.
Demontreal Crutchfield 2020 Del City Guard
Crutchfield had a fabulous game for the Eagles on Monday night. He was a master at creating offense and breaking the press that Carl Albert threw at the Eagles for the majority of the night. NCAA Division II programs will want to get Crutchfield on the radar early. The best things he brings to the table is his playmaking on offense. Not only can Crutchfield score the basketball well, but he is a good creator for his teammates. What will stick out instantly to coaches is the way Crutchfield competes at all times on the court. He played a huge part in the Eagles victory tonight.
Kobe Higgins 2019 Del City Guard
Higgins was phenomenal down the stretch for Del City. They put the ball in his hands late with his great handle and used him to run down the clock. The offensive output from him in the second half may have been what pushed Del City over the top. He hit several clutch baskets when it appeared as if Carl Albert was going to make the comeback. Higgins is a 5’11 Point Guard with a tight handle, good vision, can score, and is someone coaches will be able to trust with the ball in his hands. He projects to the small college level.
Nate Goodlow 2020 Del City Guard
Goodlow took on the challenge of matching up with Harrell for a good part of the night. Del City leaned on Goodlow to create offense for himself and others. The poise and high basketball IQ of Goodlow are extremely high, especially for his age. Goodlow is a prospect that is projected to go the NCAA Division I level in the Oklahoma 2020 Class. The upside of Goodlow is due to his ability to bring a high level of play to the court on both ends of the floor.
