Updated 2018 Rankings: 757/804 Bigs (Part One)
As we continue to breakdown our prospect rankings, we take a look at part one of the bigs who play high school basketball in the Hampton Roads and Richmond areas.
Tyrek Williams | 6’8” | LC Bird (#26 Overall)
A skilled and bullish big man, Williams has a mix of touch and strength that allows him to score at an efficient level in the post. He’s patient in the post, is a willing passer out of it, has good touch with both hands and he’s extremely strong which allows him to bully smaller posts. He was a double-double guy his last year of high school and should be at Norfolk State as well.
Nyzaiah Chambers | 6’6” | Oscar Smith (#36 Overall)
An undersized but bouncy big man, Chambers had a great senior season for Oscar Smith. He’s a catch and finish big that can run the floor and finishes above the rim and gets extra opportunities on the offensive glass. He really shines defensively, where he’s quick off his feet and has impeccable timing when contesting shots.
Chris Ford | 6’9” | LC Bird (#41 Overall)
Williams’ teammate and future teammate battled injuries throughout his career but he’s shown so much potential considering he’s only played basketball for four years. He plays with a high motor, he’s a very good rim protector and he runs the floor like a wing. He has improved at a rapid rate when he’s been healthy, and should continue on that trajectory as well.
Malik Jefferson | 6’7” | Hopewell (#42 Overall)
He recently signed with UMES of the MEAC, and his style of play and recent improvements bold well for him at the next level. He has a high motor, he has soft touch with both hands around the basket and he can stretch the floor with his ability to shoot the midrange. If he continues to improve across the board he’ll be good moving forward.
Dimitri Georgiadis | 6’8” | Benedictine (#44 Overall)
He’s shown improvements over the past couple of years, and he averaged close to a double-double this year for Benedictine. As one of the best available bigs in the state, he’s starting to receive more offers every week. He rebounds well, can run the floor and likes to score over his left shoulder with his back to the basket.
Eric Rustin | 6’11” | Huguenot (#60 Overall)
There isn’t another big man in the state with the length of Rustin, which makes him a very good rim protector and defender. He finishes above the rim offensively, and can run the floor well, and with a prep year to get stronger he should be looked at for all of these reasons and a decent touch in the paint.
Christian Chappell | 6’10” | Prince George (#71 Overall)
A massive individual, Chappell, whose brother plays at CNU, averaged over 18 points per game in his senior season. The most intriguing part of his game is his skill set, Chappell is an extremely talented shooter that can hit the trail three and can be used in pick-and-pop situations. The big thing will be his weight, if he can get that down and become more mobile he’ll be a steal at the next level.
