SW Metro Boys Athlete of the Week: Nathan Hendler
Ask Nathan Hendler how he and Holy Family are doing, and he’ll respond with ease and confidence. The Fire are putting together a top 10-level season thanks in large part to Nathan’s achievements and production. Nathan is the latest SW Metro Boys Athlete of the Week.
“Our season has been surprising to some people. We have beat teams we shouldn’t have. We are that sleeper team,” Nathan said.
The Fire are 15-6 with a handful of games to go, vying for a top 3 seed in section 5AA. Their Wright County Conference schedule has been a challenge, but Nathan knows it’s only preparing them for the long run.
“Our section is stacked. We plan to make a run though, we are going to have beat talented teams regardless,” Nathan explained. “Also, Coach Thuli gives us a tough 2A, 3A, and 4A schedule every year.”
Nathan recently reached 1,000 career points and became the school’s all-time leading scorer. He’s keeping a level head and remembering who and what got him there.
“Those achievements are direct reflections of the people I have surrounded myself with, including my family, friends, teammates, and coaches,” he said.
”But, it is time for a new goal. Make that [playoff] run.”
