Surging Seniors: Who Has Made A Recent Jump Onto The Radar?
With senior night taking place or already taken place at a number of schools across the state of Idaho, a number of seniors have turned in noteworthy performances to help position them onto our radar. The cream of the crop still remains in the 2018 class, but who has made a recent surge late this season outside of the top players in the class?
Since it is time to celebrate the contributions from seniors this time of year and appreciate the work they have put into their programs, let’s highlight some of those players who have turned it up a notch late in the season.
In no particular order, here are some seniors that have moved the needle as of late and been lighting up as they make their mark on their program and high school basketball careers.
Chris Kielman, Skyview
Chris Kielman has been putting up some well-rounded stat lines lately as he posted a 15 point, 8 rebound and 8 assist effort in a win over Middleton and just recently posted a 7 point, 4 rebound, 3 assist, and 3 steals effort in a triple overtime win against Emmett. Kielman didn’t shoot the ball well in the dog fight against Emmett, but like always found a way to be involved in other avenues to help his team. The 6’1 guard will look to keep up the production as he helps his team close out the regular season in style starting tonight against Vallivue and then their end of regular season contest versus Mountain Home.
Ethan Christianson, Ambrose
Before his recent game against Wilder, Ethan Christianson had scored 20 or more points in six straight games for Ambrose. The 5’9 guard who can score in waves has been hot to close the season and despite their narrow 1 point loss to Wilder, Christianson and Ambrose will get a chance to play a home game tonight in front of fans to close out the regular season and perhaps to watch their exciting guard light up the box score another time this season.
Jayson Hibbard, Skyview
Another Skyview player who has been hot and doing it all, Jayson Hibbard has been a monster on the glass and it has resulted in positive results for his team. In his most recent outing, Hibbard showed what he can do in a game where he went for 19 points, 20 rebounds 4 assists, 2 blocks and 3 steals in triple overtime against Emmett. It was one of the most impressive performances of his entire season and something that Skyview will need to lean on as they end their regular season and look ahead.
Andrew Ferrin, Burley
A player who can contribute in many different ways, Andrew Ferrin has been helping Burley chalk up wins all season but has really come on as of late. Ferrin has double-double potential every time he laces them up and in their recent win over Wood River he did just that, going for 15 points and 10 rebounds in their win. Ferrin closes out his regular season at home tonight against Pocatello, should be another great performance for the skilled 6’8 forward.
Sam Matheson, Coeur d`Alene
It is no surprise to see Sam Matheson‘s name pop up in CDA box scores, he has been doing it quite a bit this season, but his recent performance against Lake City where the 6’1 guard poured in 29 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists in their win reminded us of what this kid can do. Matheson’s work is not done yet this regular season as his team is on the road tonight against Lewiston and then has two more against Sandpoint and Moscow…we could be in for some more big time performances from Sam.
Nick Meyerhoeffer, Filer
Despite the loss to Kimberly, the 6’1 guard Nick Meyerhoeffer netted 20 points and once again turned in a nice game as his team cruises to the end of their regular season. Following three striaght losses, Meyerhoeffer will look to put up some stats tonight as they close the regular season with Wood River on the road.
Kade Shaw, Dietrich
While another senior in Slade Dill has been seemingly always in our POTW conversation, it has been the excellent surge of production in Kade Shaw that has also brought our attention to this super skilled and gritty Dietrich team who scored 19 points in their regular season finale to secure the number 1 seed at the district tournament next week.
Jack Thompson, Shelley
Coming off two straight wins and a 21 point effort in the win against Teton, Jack Thompson has been showing up for Shelley as of late and will get a chance to do so again as they close out the regular season campaign against Sugar-Salem tonight.
Bryant Gerdes, Payette
It will be a chance for redemption as Bryant Gerdes and the Payette Pirates will do battle with Fruitland tonight to close out their regular season. Payette dropped their last contest against Fruitland by three points and will look to do battle again this time on their home floor. Last home game for Gerdes against Parma, he went for 23 points, let’s see what he has in store tonight.
Colton Counts, Timberlake
Colton Counts put up an excellent game against Bonners Ferry going for 28 points and to help his team get the win and will get a chance to do so again when the two teams face off in their regular season finale next Thursday at Timberlake. We expect another solid game from the big man Counts again.
