Skyline v. Huron: Preview And 3 Keys To The Game
Huron will make the short trip across town to take on Skyline tonight in an SEC Red conference tilt. The game will tip at 7PM. Skyline is in the midst of a memorable season. They are undefeated, leading the conference, and considered one of the top teams in Michigan. Huron is chasing Skyline in conference, but is priming themselves for a late season and playoff run. Tonight will be a fun atmosphere as friends and AAU teammates collide in a classic rivalry game.
HURON PERIMETER DEFENSE
Huron is excellent defensively, with their brand of team defense among the best in southeastern Michigan. Louis Willis and LJ DeWolf are elite defenders and will try to slow the Skyline backcourt. On the perimeter, Skyline has a legitimate college backcourt in Jack Ammerman, Brandon Wade, and Ryan Wade. Ammerman can shoot the lights out, while Ryan Wade is an elite athlete and a Division 1 college talent. Brandon Wade can shoot, and drive the lane for a bucket or dish off for an assist. If Huron’s backcourt can slow one of Michigan’s top offensive backcourts, they will have a chance at the upset.
THE DESEAN MUNSON EFFECT
Munson is a 6-6 junior forward for Skyline. He is an athlete who can clean the glass and plays outstanding defense, always making himself a threat to block a shot. Munson has been playing especially solid basketball lately. He recently had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. When Munson is playing well, Skyline is nearly impossible to beat.
REBOUNDING BATTLE
Skyline is quite possibly the most potent offensive team in Michigan. To win this game, Huron needs to limit their second chance opportunities. If they have a solid defensive possession, they need to reward themselves with a rebound. Avery Lewis, a senior forward and recent Saginaw Valley State commit, can play a huge part in that. He is a magnet to the ball when it comes off the rim and he’s as tough as they come. If Skyline hits the offensive glass and gets second chance opportunities and put back points,, they are too tough for any team in the state too handle.
