SCISA Championship Saturday – Sumter,SC
Championship Saturday took place yesterday in the Sumter Civic Center. Three schools were crowned State Champions.
Anderson Christian defeated Newberry Academy 75-51 to win the SCISA A State Championship. Anderson Christian jumped out to a 13-0 lead to start the and never looked back.
Spartanburg Day won there 3rd straight State Championship in SCISA AA defeating Trinity Byrnes 74-41. Zion Williamson played his last high school game of his career with the Griffins. Williamson finished the game with 38 points, Kyle Tracy added 13 points and Matt Brown 12 points. Tracy (2018) went over 1,000 points in the game.
The Titans were led in scoring by senior Terance Mack with 12 points, LaSauhn McFadden added 8 points and sophomore guard Jordan Jones 7 points. The Titans finished the season at 25-6.
Porter Gaud defeated city rival First Baptist 80-63 to clinch the 3-peat for the Cyclones. The Cyclones finished the season at 26-2 under Head Coach John Pearson. Playing in their final games Jake Lanford and Aaron Nesmith each scored 17 points. Josiah James (2019) added 14 points while senior Harrison Whatley added 9 points in the win. Lanford will play at Yale next season while Nesmith will attend Vanderbilt. Whatley will play at New York University (NCAA D2).
The Hurricanes finish the season at 17-8 under Head Coach Tony Eady. Junior guard Michel Dukes finished the game with 22 points while teammate Devin Dean chipped in with 20 points.
The SCISA basketball season has come to a end with Anderson Christian, Spartanburg Day and Porter Gaud as State Champions. Spartanburg Day and Porter both have won 3 straight State Championships. Anderson Christian had lost the past 2 straight championship games to Charleston Collegiate until winning this season.
