SCISA 3-A Quarterfinals
Prep Hoops took in the action from the SCISA 3-A Quarterfinals at the Sumter Civic Center this week.
Pinewood Prep #5 seed upset Cardinal Newman 56-53. The Panthers were led in scoring by Jaterric Clark with 22 points. Clark connected on 5 three pointers. Furman commit Jalen Slawson had 15 points and 13 rebounds. Walker Lima nailed some key free throws down the stretch for the Panthers. Lima finished with 8 points.
The Panthers barely subbed and played 6 kids all game long.
Chico Carter Jr scored 15 points in the loss for Cardinal Newman. Patrick Reedy and Shane O’Connor both finished with 10 points.
First Baptist #2 seed came from 17 points behind in the 4th quarter to defeat Laurence Manning 72-69. The Hurricanes were led in scoring by junior duo Joseph Powell and Devin Dean both with 21 points. Michel Dukes added 18 points after being in foul trouble most of the game.
The Swampcats finish the season at 21-7 under Head Coach Will Epps. Jerrel Kelly (2018) finished the game with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Grayson Dennis added 15 points and Taylor Lee and Chase Lee both finished with 13 points.
Porter Gaud Cyclones are looking to 3-peat and started off with a blowout win over Ben Lippen 72-38. The Cyclones move to 23-2 on the year. Aaron Nesmith a Vanderbilt signee finished the night 29 points. Jake Lanford a Yale commit added 14 points while New York University commit Harrison Whatley added 7 points. Josiah James finished the night with 4 points in the win.
Ben Lippen finishes the season at 8-17. Javian Bellamy finishes his high school career with 14 points and Ryan McCray added 7 points.
The nightcap featured Heathwood Hall vs Hammond. The Highlanders prevailed in a close one 50-47. The Highlanders will now play Porter Gaud in the semifinals. Isaiah Caldwell led the way with 20 points. Lucas Prickett finished off a brilliant career for the Hammond Skyhawks with 11 points. Cleo Canty added 10 points. while Isiah Washington mustered 9 points.
