Recruiting Report: Uhana Ochan (2018)
At 16-2 Mankato East is one of the top stories of this Class AAA season and Uhana Ochan’s defensive ability and high percentage finishing has been a key piece to the success.
“Things for me are great,” Uhana said. “I’m playing good and our team is 16-2, we’re having a good season so far
Ochan is scoring 12-13 points per game with nearly ten boards and 2-3 blocks a contest.
“At this point I’ve seen improvement in my passing, and using my left hand, just finding my teammates right away when their open,” Ochan said.
The Cougars have a strong senior group with Edmon Oyet, Damien Hayes, Kong Kong, and Ochan all averaging double figures along with Jax Madson. There is also a quality sophomore group of Madson, Jordan Merseth, and Joich Gong.
“We have two sophomores in the starting lineup as well as three seniors,” Ochan said. “We expect to win the section and go to state and I believe we’re a championship contender and our whole team believes that as well.”
The Cougars have eight games to go before section play and it’s eight Big Nine games. Half of the games are going to be wins and the other half (Owatonna, Northfield, Austin, Rochester JM) will decide who wins the conference.
“Individually my goal is to help lead my team to more wins, our team goals consist of winning our section, continuing to play as a team and win the rest of our games.”
Several of the Midwest D1 junior colleges have made contact and more are likely to.
“Lake Region State College and Highland Community College both offered me,” Ochan said. “I’ve been contacted by Kirkwood and Grand View. I plan to take visits after the season is over.”
