Recruiting Report: Kevin Powell (2019)
Currently checking in as Georgia’s 31st-ranked 2019, 6-foot-7 Woodward power forward Kevin Powell is in-line for an eventful next six months.
There’s been a bevy of Division I interest coming his way since the conclusion of his 16U grassroots season. And it seems just a matter of time before that interest becomes offers.
“I have a lot of interests. I don’t have any offers, but a lot of colleges have been looking into me; Samford, Middle Tennessee, South Alabama, East Carolina, North Florida, Lipscomb, Furman, Temple, Bucknell, Radford, UNC-Greensboro, Wofford, Belmont and Tennessee Tech,” said Powell.
“I feel like Lipscomb has been really interested, and UNC-Greensboro, I’ve heard from more than I thought I would. Bucknell was pretty in the mix, in the beginning. And I talk to the South Alabama coach maybe every other week.”
An aggressive rebounder who excels from the high-post, Powell defined his set of skills during our recent phone interview.
“This year, I’ve been getting more rebounds, being aggressive, and getting buckets when we need them,” said Powell. “I’ve been developing into more of a wing player over the years. This season, I’m probably on the wing 20 percent of the time, but usually in our offense I’m in the high-post and I create from there.”
Recently, Powell’s Woodward squad punched its ticket to the state tourney by winning their regional championship.
“In the beginning of the season, it was kind of shaky for everybody. We have a really young team, and we were all getting use to one another. But, things definitely picked up a lot as the season went on,” said Powell. “And, myself, recently I’ve been playing a lot better.”
This offseason, Powell says he’s not sure yet who he’ll play with. He played with Atlanta Celtics last summer.
“I don’t have an idea of who I’m playing with this year, but I should have that figured out in the next week or two,” said Powell, who laid out his goals for the summer.
“Offers-wise, I’d like to get five-plus before the end of the off-season, and definitely just enhance my potential. I want to get better, and improve on things that will make be better in college.”
