Recruiting Report: Kentron Poitier (2020)
Kentron Poitier plays a seasoned game.
The 6’4″, 185-pound sophomore forward is averaging a team-best 14.6 PPG for SLAM. He’s also averaging 8.7 PPG.
So far this season, Poitier has scored 20 or more points five times. He’s fresh off a 21 point, 10 rebound and 4 assist outing in a 93-73 win over Gulliver Prep on Tuesday.
He says he took a lot from his freshman campaign.
“I learned how important doing other things on the court are beside scoring were,” Poitier told Prep Hoops Florida. “Playing defense, rebounding and setting screens I took pride in doing those well.”
Poitier’s expectations for this season are to win a Class 4A-District 7 title and compete for a state championship. SLAM is currently 21-2.
He says his game grew the most on the perimeter, pointing to his mid-range and 3-point shots as confident.
Poitier played for Nike South Beach this past summer.
No offers have come yet for the 2020 forward, but he’s drawn interest from Boston College, FIU, North Florida, UCF, Wyoming and Hofstra.
In terms of his biggest strengths, Poitier pointed to his ability to get to the basket, finish and defensive intensity. He wants to continue to improve his outside touch and his ballhandling.
Poitier is a pure athlete, who knows how to use his length and strength to score buckets more often than not. He proved his worth as a freshman and is maturing two-fold this season. This summer will be crucial for him as he showcases his worth in front of a ton of college coaches. He has the tools and if he continues to get better, he’ll be a top 2020 player in the state awfully soon.
